ASCAP Pop Awards

Melissa and I took time out from recording her next album to head over to the Kodak Theater, where she was presented with their highest award, “The Founders Award”. According to their website, “The ASCAP Founders Award is among the most prestigious honors that ASCAP gives to songwriters who have made pioneering contributions to music by inspiring and influencing their fellow music creators. Each recipient is a musical innovator who possesses a unique style of songwriting genius that will enrich generations to come.

Past recipients include Annie Lennox, Neil Young, Jackson Browne, Elvis Costello, James Taylor, Tom Waits, Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell, Billy Joel, Ashford & Simpson, Sir George Martin, Burt Bacharach & Hal David, Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller, Smokey Robinson, Sir Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder , to name a few.”

Congratulations Melissa! And as she says, “As long as everyone knows I”m at a halfway point, then it’s good.”

The last time we were there, she picked up an Oscar for the song I co-produced, “I Need To Wake Up” from the Al Gore documentary, “An Inconvenient Truth”. I LIKE that theater!
